Yet another interesting article from the NY Times about the ever-changing entertainment industry. This is why we’re making our documentary!

As home-entertainment revenue declined in the last five years, studios reduced spending on scripts from new writers, cut junior staff positions and severely curtailed deals with producers who once provided entry-level positions for film school graduates. Yet applications to university film, television and digital media programs surged in the last few years as students sought refuge from the weak economy in graduate schools and some colleges opened new programs.

From private fundraising, to crowdsourcing, to financial hybrids, we want to tell the story of how the next generation of talent is re-shaping the way ideas journey from script to screen.

We are holding a casting session in LATE FEBRUARY. Please come prepared to provide:

(1) a synopsis of your project, and…

(2) why you believe your journey is worth documenting.

Keep in mind that you MUST have the right to grant access to the inner workings of the project as you move towards release.

Personality is preferred, but honesty is required.

I thought I was done posting for the day BUT this is what happens when you’re rendering media and clicking around the web in the interim. In this interview, the journalist tries to corner Tarantino on the impact of violence in movies, especially pertinent considering Vice President Biden was in the midst of the same conversation somewhere in Washington, DC. QT was not happy to engage, to say the least.

One comment I take a bit of issue with is his idea of “giving young black males a hero” via this film and the character of Django. It’s much like “giving someone their freedom”. Both are things young black males are already in possession of, but I digress. These files are almost done copying anyway.

Thoughts?

Last I read on this there were all kinds of “issues” because Netflix was being pulled over the $100MM mark for the production of this original series. What do you expect when you partner up with one of the most detail oriented filmmakers with a penchant for perfection? From the looks of the trailer, I think they will NOT regret their investment and I imagine they may get some new subscribers or some standard by-mail accounts to add the streaming functionality to their profiles. House of Cards premieres 2/1/13.

ABOUT THE SHOW:
Bad, for a greater good. Ruthless and cunning, Congressman Francis Underwood (Oscar® winner Kevin Spacey) and his wife Claire (Robin Wright) stop at nothing to conquer everything. This wicked political drama penetrates the shadowy world of greed, sex, and corruption in modern D.C. Kate Mara (“American Horror Story”) and Corey Stoll (“Midnight in Paris”) costar in the first original series from David Fincher (“The Social Network”) and Beau Willimon (“The Ides of March”).
